Personal Work

Alongside my commissioned work, I make short films with the people behind handmade things – painters, ceramicists, designers and artists whose work I find endlessly inspiring.

I feel so incredibly grateful to have found a way to build a fruitful career around one of my creative passions. But I’ve learnt that I crave a space to simply play and explore in order to keep that creative spark alive. These films are where I do that. There is some incredible talent in Western Australia that makes me so proud to be part of this community. It's truly an honour for me to be welcomed inside an artist's studio to document their magic stamp on this world. Each film is made for the love of it, and each maker keeps theirs to share however they like.

This work is also my quiet rejection of fast-paced videos made to grab your attention within seconds – and of an ever-growing AI world, where building a career from a handmade craft feels less and less achievable. I hope you'll take the time to truly sit back and appreciate the work that goes into a creative practice. It doesn't get much more human than this.

Happy watching,
Coralie

Flora is always painting, whether it's a small study in her sketchbook or a bigger original canvas. Ever attentive to her surroundings, she gives herself the time and stillness to let her reflections spill out onto the page.

Kura Studio is a creative practice based in sunny Perth, Western Australia. Co-founded by best friend duo Serena Pangestu and Anika Kalotay in 2017, Kura Studio believes that responsive design can turn day-to-day tasks into thoughtful moments. Derived from the Indonesian word kura-kura which means tortoise. A tortoise moves slowly because it doesn’t need to move fast.
